Lactose Intolerance

Did you know that if you are lactose intolerant you can probably still enjoy several milk products?

We offer a wide range of lactose-free products, where the lactose have been removed so that also lactose intolerant consumers can enjoy the variety of various dairy products in their daily diet.

The carbohydrate naturally found in milk is called lactose, or milk sugar. Globally, a few percent of the population is estimated to be lactose intolerant, which mean that the body have lower level of lactase (the enzyme that the body needs to break down the lactose into smaller pieces before digestion) which can cause digestive incomfort. The vast majority of lactose intolerant people tolerate a small amount of milk sugar per meal and there are many milk products lactose intolerant people can enjoy, in addition to those found in the lactose-free shelf. Yellow cheese and yoghurt, for example, naturally contain  a lower amounts of lactose compared to milk:

  • Yellow cheese contain less than 0.1 gram of lactose per 100 grams of cheese and therefore passes the limit for a product to be called lactose-free.

  • Yogurt contains a small amount of lactose, approximately 3 grams of lactose per 100 grams of yo-gurt. Try it carefully to see if you can eat it.

Lactose intolerance should not be mixed with milk protein allergy. If you are allergic to milk protein, you should refrain from any milk products!
